Topic: Blending ISO & Baldrige for High Performance

The Baldrige Excellence Framework and ISO 9001 Quality Management System are used within organizations to address quality performance. Each has a distinct purpose and are similar yet different. This webinar will describe the differences in the two systems and how they can compliment each other for the purpose of continuous improvement. The webinar is especially beneficial to organizations that are currently ISO 9001 registered and compliant and are interested in implementing the Baldrige Excellence Framework. Objectives of the webinar are to; 

  • Identify the primary purpose of Baldrige Excellence Framework
  • Identify the primary purpose of ISO 9001 Quality Management System Standard
  • Discuss where the areas of Baldrige and ISO 9001 systems are most closely aligned
  • Recognize the areas of difference between Baldrige and ISO 9001 systems
  • Discuss how these two systems can complement the other for continuous improvement efforts 

Dr. Karla Marshall is the Executive Director of Instructional Support, leading student and teacher support services for Moore Norman Technology Center. As Director of the Business and Industry Services division within Moore Norman Technology Center, Karla led her team in becoming the first educational organization in North America to achieve ISO 9001 registration in 1996 and one of the first educational organizations to be selected for the Oklahoma Quality Award in 1999. Karla co-authored the book, Leading Change in Technical Education Training, which focuses on educational improvement through principles of ISO 9001. The book has been used by several countries, including Malaysia and the Philippines, for the improvement of their country’s technical education programs. Karla currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Oklahoma Quality Foundation and has served as an ISO 9001 Lead Auditor and a Baldrige National Examiner. She has a MEd in Adult Education from the University of Central Oklahoma and a PhD in Educational Administration from the University of Oklahoma.   

Gayla Brown is the District Improvement Coordinator for Moore Norman Technology Center. In her role, Ms. Brown is responsible for district strategic planning, accreditation, and the quality system, which is a blend of ISO 9001:2015 and the Baldrige Excellence Framework. Gayla has over 20 years experience within the manufacturing and education industries, implementing and consulting on quality tools and the ISO quality system. Gayla was the Implementation Team Leader for Moore Norman Technology Center for ISO 9001 registration in 2009 for the entire district. Gayla has an associate degree in Electronics Communication and a Bachelor of Science in Engineering. She is a registered IRCA QMS 2000 Lead Auditor, a Six Sigma Green Belt, and has served as Auditor and Lead Auditor for numerous Quality and Environmental audits throughout Oklahoma and Texas. In addition, Gayla served as an examiner and team leader for the Oklahoma Quality Award from 1999 to 2005.
